Another Daytona bullet
The new Ford Probe GTP was built in Germany, in the Zakspeed shop in
Niederzissen, and was powered by a turbocharged four cylinder powerplant. The car had been assembled in order to be able to be quickly and efficiently serviced, yet it needed to be sorted out.
Designed by Zakspeed's Paul Brown, the car was sleek and was introduced to IMSA GTP racing in May 1985, at Laguna Seca.
The Probe was very fast, but they were pulling 600 horsepower out of it's 2.1 liter 4 cylinder engine and they kept melting pistons. It won one race at Laguna Seca, and lead many more, but failed to finish.
Competitor of Vette and Jaag GTP we have published previously. On Daytona 1987 was 3 seconds slower then Vette GTP and 962, and two sec then XJR-7.
